We know that with the right leadership, New York City can build a dynamic and inclusive green economy that:
• Employs a wide spectrum of workers in the emerging fields of energy efficiency, urban forestry, environmental remediation, green product development and brownfield remediation
• Develops long-term, strong career tracks with good wages, benefits and opportunities for advancement
• Creates pathways out of poverty and empowers jobless New Yorkers to lead our City’s sustainability efforts
• Transitions existing industries and fosters new opportunities for incumbent and underemployed workers.
THE GREEN COLLAR JOBS ROADMAP IDENTIFIES HOW WE CAN MAKE THIS GREEN ECONOMY A REALITY. Specifically, it lays out nine action steps that our City’s Elected Officials can take to prepare New Yorkers for Green Collar Jobs including:

2. Enabling the private sector to expand green training and workforce development toward strong, long-term career tracks
3. Supporting and expanding the capacity of the city’s public educational system to develop the green workforce of tomorrow
4. Incorporating green collar training into existing citywide workforce development initiatives, CTE schools and Workforce 1 centers to foster new long-term career tracks and to transition incumbent workers
5. Supporting and expanding green community-based training partnerships to create pathways out of poverty
6. Developing innovative green workforce development programs and partnerships to coordinate career training and sustainability efforts
7. Supporting the development of green career certifications and training standards to make green businesses and entrepreneurs more competitive
